Interview – Amy Hunter-Law – Operations Executive

Welcome to interview number 10 in this series, where we get to know our newer Quorumites a little better and discuss what life has been like in their first six months in-role.

Today we’re chatting with Amy Hunter-Law, an Operations Executive within our Operations team.

If you missed the last interview with IT Analyst, Ryan McCartney, you can find that HERE.

How were you introduced to Quorum?

It was a very simple process actually. I saw the job on LinkedIn, it was posted by Jackie Begbie and I just applied through there.

Jackie contacted me directly for a chat and the process went from there, I was interviewed and, happily, got the role.

Tell us a bit about your role?

I work in Operations and I am responsible for a lot of the company’s administrative tasks. If you’re looking to book conferences or travel, I’m your person. I get involved with organising our company events, so that’s always fun.

The wider accounts team deals with all the requests that come into the Operations department, so it’s a real mixed bag of anything and everything. We deal with requests as they come in.

What is your experience of your team’s hybrid working pattern?

Our team comes into the office once a week on a Monday and the rest of the time we work from home, it helps us to remember what each other looks like 😉 I think it works really well for us to have one day where you are in the office and physically part of the team and able to do a bit of team bonding.

The rest of the time, working from home works really well for us. We have daily morning check-ins to make sure we are all up-to-date with what’s going on and what the rest of the team is up to and I really love that. I love the fact that we’re still as good a team working from home as we are working from the office. We still have the camaraderie and jokes, so it’s a great thing to have in place.

How would you describe Quorum as an employer?

I think we’ve all worked in toxic workplaces and Quorum just isn’t like that. There doesn’t appear to be any micromanagement, which I really, really appreciate. You have accountability and responsibility for what you do.

Everyone seems to actually like everyone else and there’s no nastiness or in-fighting. Everyone gets on very well, which is a refreshing environment to be a part of. As soon as I joined, it instantly felt like I was part of a team and that I’d always been part of the team, there was no feeling that I had to ‘earn’ my place which is something I’ve experienced elsewhere.

What would you like to achieve in the next six months?

Within my team, I honestly just hope to stay happy and productive in my role and just keep learning and growing. I’d like to learn as much as possible.

In the wider company, I’d like to meet and get to know more people outside of my team. Unfortunately I just missed a big opportunity to do that as I was on holiday and so missed the company AGM.

And that’s it really, just keep on track and be more social!
