Quorum are pleased to extend our collaboration with Flexibility Works for the next year. This strategic alliance aims to empower employees, boost productivity, and set a new standard for work-life balance in the corporate world.

Who are Flexibility Works?

Flexibility Works is a social business, co-founded by two of Scotland’s leading experts in Flexible Working – Lisa Gallagher and Nikki Slowey.

With a practical and creative approach, they support employers to develop more flexible workplaces – a win-win for their people and their organisation. They are also leading commentators on flexible working in Scotland and work closely with the Scottish Government and policy makers to drive forward this agenda.

Quorum’s Approach to Flexible Working

Quorum have supported flexible working arrangements from day one by focusing on an outcomes-based approach. So long as the clients’ needs were satisfied, we could be flexible with working patterns.

Ultimately, we’re all about results. Allowing staff to work flexibly gives us a happier workforce, helps our bottom line and has made us a healthy, successful, and profitable business.

Andrew Watson

Managing Director, Quorum

While it’s simply not possible for every role, as the company has grown to over 130 employees, we’ve tried to remain as flexible as is feasible with our employees. Flexible working in Quorum isn’t just for those with children and isn’t just about working from home, it includes hybrid work, flexible hours, compressed workweeks, and just generally being accommodating around employees outside lives and commitments.

Quorum are proud of our low turnover rates. By embracing flexible work practices, we hope to attract good employees from a broader talent pool and retain our existing exceptional workforce. In today’s competitive job market, offering flexible work options can be a significant differentiator.

We’ve noticed a marked increase in candidates asking about flex at the start of the recruitment process. This has been even more noticeable post-Covid as more employees embrace different styles of working and realise that flex is not just something for working parents.

Flexible working enables a better work/life balance for everyone and it’s these cultural elements that have become increasingly appealing to candidates – even more so than traditional benefits packages.

Our Partnership

Quorum’s relationship with Nikki and Lisa began when they worked with Family Friendly Working Scotland, a coalition of voluntary organisations and the Scottish Government. We were incredibly impressed with Nikki and Lisa’s passion and knowledge for flex and so it just made sense for Quorum to partner with them when they launched Flexibility Works. Quorum’s Managing Director, Andrew Watson, was also honoured to be asked to sit on the board of Flexibility Works.

Flexibility Works finds it really important to partner with organisations like Quorum, firstly to help amplify to the business community in what ways flexible working positively benefits people and business, and also to help show other businesses how it might be done.

More and more we are being asked ‘how’ to really embed flexible working in all different sizes and types of organisation. By aligning themselves with the flexible working ‘agenda’, Quorum helps others to see that by having open, adult conversations about working flexibly- whether that be part time, remotely or adjustments to hours- there can be significant benefits to things like retention and recruitment of great staff, the wellbeing of their people and even client satisfaction scores.

As a small business ourselves, we also just really appreciate the support that Andy and his team offer us, whether that’s commercial advice, talking to Government Ministers about flex, or coming along to talk at our events.

Lisa Gallagher

Director and Co-Founder, Flexibility Works

Quorum’s partnership with Flexibility Works marks another step in the quest for a more flexible, inclusive, and employee-centric work culture. By prioritising employee well-being and embracing flexible work arrangements, we hope we are setting a positive example for other companies to follow.

As this partnership continues to evolve, we hope to be a solid example of how businesses can thrive while prioritising the needs and aspirations of our most valuable asset—our employees.
