Oct 26, 2020 | Life at Quorum, One Quorum

Quorum are always looking out for the very best talent and are committed to sustainable growth for the company.
We sat down with Recruitment Manager Jackie Begbie (pictured) to find out a bit more about interviewing successfully for Quorum.
What’s your top tip for getting through the door to the interview stage?
The quality of your CV is really what gets you through the door. We want to see a tailored CV highlighting relevant technologies to the role you’re applying for, we want to know about the projects you’ve been involved in, and we want to know what you’re interested in.

It’s obvious if you are just sending the same generic CV out to every job you apply for. We want to see someone that’s made the effort to tie their abilities back to the job description and has done their research into the company.

Do any interviews stand out to you as especially great? What did that person bring to the table?
I can think of one candidate in particular that had the perfect blend of professionalism and personality. They came to the interview incredibly well prepared, they had obviously researched Quorum and understood what we do and had thought out really impressive answers before the interview relating them back to skills, responsibilities, and technologies in the job spec. They made it easy to see how they would be an asset to the team.

On top of that, they came across as a really nice person with a good sense of humour and that’s important to us at Quorum.

What do you think is the best interview question for getting a sense of if the person is right for Quorum or not?
It’s not so much a question, but I want to see someone’s passion for technology and learning come through. We have a real culture of learning in Quorum, we are always trying to better ourselves and gain new skills. It’s important to us to be at the forefront of technology, we do a lot of exams and are always keen to pick up new technologies, so you need to be willing to get on board with that

You also must be able to demonstrate that you are a team player. Quorum is the type of company where we roll up our sleeves and have a go at whatever is required. We want to see candidates that are happy to pitch in to help your colleagues, but it pays off as you’ll receive the same support in return.

What advice would you give to candidates to help them stand out in interviews with Quorum?
It sounds cliché but be yourself and let your personality shine through. The most important thing in Quorum is our people and our culture, it’s the bedrock of everything we do and it’s how we maintain such strong relationships with our customers. Other things can be learned, but if you are the right fit for the company then that goes a long, long way.
