Email Downtime Costs Business Over £1b per year
Email downtime or ‘e-failure’ could be costing UK businesses more than £1 billion per year according to recent research.
Questioning IT and Marketing Directors in organisations with more than 200 employees, email was found to be the second most frequent form of communication after the phone. Given the importance of email communication between companies and clients it is interesting to hear that the average company suffers from four e-failures per year. The average cost for a company lacking email services for a day amounts to more than £70,000 across the UK, and with an ever-increasing reliance on email in business this number is only going to rise.
Stephen Martin of Market Clarity says, “There is clearly a major financial impact for British business from email failure but there will also be a greater, long-term impact on a company’s reputation.”
Around 70% of IT directors are planning on increasing their spending to secure their email systems. Spending money on the problem now will save thousands of pounds in the future through saved downtime, and help ensure that e-failure does not cost your company profit, as well as reputation.
