Overview:
Our client, a global business within the global financial services industry, was undertaking a program to overhaul its Anti-Virus infrastructure, replacing Sophos Anti-Virus with a McAfee Anti-Virus solution.
Requirements:
The client brief was to undertake the deployment of the McAfee within its Secure Server Infrastructure estate, over 1500 Wintel servers. The estate consisted of a mixture of windows platforms across various different security separated complexes. The servers supported over 100 plus different business critical services. The following were some of the main requirements;
- Deploy ePO management servers and repositories within the estate where necessary.
- Define Anti-virus polices for the server environment, with security settings appropriate to the environment.
- Deployments should cause minimal if any impact to service.
- For support purposes, all alerts and status indicators must be handle appropriately within existing systems management infrastructure.
- For reporting and audit purposes all McAfee ePO infrastructure must integrate with the centralised ePO server.
Solution:
A layered McAfee ePO 4.0 solution was deployed from which all servers within the estate download a centrally managed Anti-Virus policy set. Scripted install packages were used in conjunction with a staged deployment plan to deploy across the estate. The automated install packages removed previous Sophos install and installed the McAfee Virus-Scan VSE 8.5 and Agent.
The end result delivered an estate wide anti-virus solution, which enabled centralised support, monitoring and reporting solution.
